Why wool?

Wool is a natural and biodegradable fiber that regulates temperature, wicks moisture, and resists odors—making it perfect for year-round wear. Unlike synthetic fabrics, it contains no harmful chemicals and its production can be part of a regenerative agriculture. And the idea that wool is itchy? That’s a myth! High-quality wool, like Merino, is incredibly soft and comfortable.

Wool production and sheep raising have deep roots in the Northeastern United States, dating back to colonial times. By the 19th century, New York and New England were thriving wool producers, with Vermont once home to more sheep than people! Today, small farms continue this tradition, producing high-quality, sustainable American wool.

How it all started

For founder Emilie Babinski, LAND is the crossroad between a passion for apparel, a career in retail and consumer products, and a conviction that the fashion industry can be an engine for good. It wasn’t until her move to the vibrant Hudson River Valley of New York that the idea of participating in the re-invigoration of the Northeast’s textile industry was formed. With LAND, Emilie aims to honor the centuries of New York textile craftsmanship and talents of fiber farmers in the Northeast and beyond.
